Dermal Fillers Q & A

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are a cosmetic injectable that adds volume under your skin. After Botox®, dermal fillers are the second most popular nonsurgical cosmetic treatment in the United States.

At Sky Vein & Aesthetics, Dr. Harrison offers many aesthetic treatments to help you reach your beauty goals, including dermal fillers.

What are the beauty benefits of dermal fillers?

Many of the visible signs of aging develop due to changes in the supportive structure of your skin. As you get older, the subcutaneous fat that keeps your skin plump and taut decreases, leading to saggy and crepey skin.

The production of collagen also decreases with age. This structural protein is responsible for your skin’s strength and elasticity. When collagen levels decrease, your skin becomes thinner and more susceptible to lines and wrinkles.

Dermal fillers restore lost volume and offer many beauty benefits, including:

  • Smoothing out lines and creases
  • Filling in sunken cheeks
  • Erasing undereye shadows

Dermal fillers also plump up thin lips and fill in sunken acne scars. Dr. Harrison may also use dermal fillers to fix facial deformities and improve facial symmetry.

What are the types of dermal fillers?

For your dermal filler injections, Sky Vein & Aesthetics uses Radiesse® and the RHA Collection by Revance.

Dr. Harrison uses Radiesse to smooth out wrinkles. It’s the first FDA-approved dermal filler for use on both the face and hands.

Radiesse is made of calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in an aqueous gel carrier. When injected into your skin, the gel immediately restores volume to correct your imperfections.

In addition to adding volume under your skin, Radiesse also stimulates the production of collagen for a long-lasting, refreshed appearance.

The RHA Collection by Revance

The RHA® Collection is made with a gentle manufacturing process. This gentle process helps preserve the natural structure of the hyaluronic acid, allowing it to more closely resemble the natural hyaluronic acid in your skin. There are three formulations in the RHA® Collection, and your provider will help you determine which one is best for your treatment plan. RHA® - Resilient Hyaluronic Acid - is the first innovation to fillers since 2008, designed to be resilient and made to move with the dynamic demands of your face.

What can I expect during dermal filler treatment?

Dr. Harrison takes a patient-centered approach to care and develops individualized dermal filler treatment plans aimed at helping you achieve your beauty goals. He reviews your treatment plan at your consultation so you know what to expect.

Prior to your dermal filler injections, Dr. Harrison may apply a topical numbing agent to minimize pain during your session. He then carefully and expertly injects the dermal filler into designated areas of skin to get the desired results.

Dr. Harrison may suggest combining your dermal fillers with Botox or Xeomin® injections for an even more dramatic improvement in your look.
